Romantics have dubbed Salzburg the "heart of the heart of Europe," but translated literally, the city's name means "fortress of salt." His name and spirit will be forever connected to the city, and there are two comprehensive Mozart museums in Salzburg, both of which draw hordes of visitors. Mozart-Wohnhaus is one of them, where Mozart lived for seven years, between 1773 and 1780. You can score your tour of this house with a hand-held device that plays selected Mozart tunes at different stops along the way. On display at Mozart-Wohnhaus are some of Mozart's instruments, sheet music, and other memorabilia related to the master composer.
